Hunter won his last start. After breaking slow, he rushed up to force the pace, managed to outduel the pacesetter, opened up turning for home and drew away to win by two lengths. Hunter suffered a knee injury since his last start and will be on the sidelines for a few months. We think he'll come back better than ever with fresh legs. |

| Maxie's Night Cap | |||||
![]() |
We're thrilled to have Maxie back in the HRC stable. We bought her as a yearling and raced her until claimed away from us as a three-year-old. As a two-year-old, she won her first three starts for us, including a nice open Allowance score at Emerald Downs. She completed her racing career with a stakes placing at Portland Meadows before retiring.
She's in foal to Washington's reigning top sire three years running, Matty G. A grade I stakes winner, Matty G won over $440,000 on the track and at stud has sired many stakes winners including millionaire My Cousin Matt. As both Maxie and the Matty G were their best at two, we're hopeful the resulting foal will capture this lightning in a bottle.

| Popular Date | |||||
![]() |
This four-year-old California-bred filly is by graded stakes winner Popular out of stakes winner Noruega, by Dance In Time. She was purchased privately after her first four good races in southern California, where she won two of four including an Allowance score.
Popular Date ran 9th in the $50,000 Federal Way Handicap in her HRC debut. We suspect her recent long haul from Santa Anita to Emerald Downs may have played a part in her disappointing effort. A couple minor issues popped up after the race that likely contributed to her effort, as well. We gave her a couple months off and she's recently retuned to training back in California for her return early in 2010 under the direction of trainer Jeff Bonde. |
||||
| White Thunder | |||||
![]() |

As a rapidly improving three-year-old on the Texas racing circuit, we recently purchased a stake in Hunter through his owner/trainer Danny Pish, one of the top conditioners in the region. Hunter loves to route and has a great record going long, including a recent fast closing second place finish in the $125,000 Texas Stallion Stakes.
Hunter ran fifth in his most recent start, the $50,000 Manor Downs Distance Cup. He was well off the pace, commenced a rally outside of horses and was flying at the end, missing by just three lengths in a good effort against top company. He'll take a short break now and come back once the Lone Star meet opens. |
||||

| California Prize | |||||
![]() |
We purchased this good looking California-bred two-year-old filly at the CTBA sale and we got a steal. She's by grade II stakes winner of $636,707 Benchmark, one of California's leading sires. He's sired 14 stakes winners, including millionaires Brother Derek and Idiot Proof. The filly is out of Creole Delights, by Bertrando. While Benchmark is a solid and attractive sire and the Nick rating on the filly is A+, it was the female side of the family and the filly's good looks that really caught our attention. The mare ran just three times in southern California Maiden Special company and was third in her second start. We suspect she suffered a career-ending injury in her third start. She is a full-sister to California stakes winner of $244,327 Lacquaria and a half-sister to $394,212 stakes winner Wild Lightning and $60,939 stakes winner Minnetonka Mist, who is also by Benchmark. Interestingly, the catalog was printed just before her other full-sister, Cajun Flash, had her top two offspring earn stakes placings, including grade III Snapshot. Our filly is from the immediate family of grade I stakes winners Sewickley ($1,017,517), Cash Run ($924,201) and Shared Interest ($667,610).
The filly is very well balanced, poised and confident. She's got big feet, which indicates she's got another growth spurt coming, too. She'll be going to the barn of Ed Moger after initial breaking and training at Green Valley Training Center. |
||||

This big, lanky chestnut has a good way of going and appears to have a bright future. He's in the barn of Shannon Hastings.
The colt ran last in his most recent start off a three month layoff. Going just 4 1/2 furlongs, he was outrun early, lost a bunch of ground on the turn and just couldn't get on track at the abbreviated distance after breaking his maiden going long in his previous effort. |

She's produced a good winner of $38,202 in 8 starts with Potluck Prize.
